2017 Governor’s Summit Targets Housing,
Workforce Education and Transportation
July 13, 2017, leaders from around the State attended the 2nd Annual Governor’s Summit in Lincoln. This year’s main topics were Housing, Workforce Education and Transportation.
John Madsen (2nd from right) shared the housing success stories from Stuart, and told participants that while they’ve done a lot of housing work in Stuart there is still more work to do. When you consider the fact that communities should be replacing 1% of their total housing stock per year, there’s a lot of work that needs to be done all across Nebraska to meet the housing needs of the State.
Workforce Education is another important topic for our region. Students need to be exposed earlier to career path opportunities that will expose them to opportunities within communities and across the State.
Central Nebraska Economic Development District staff are beginning to work with communities, schools and businesses to develop programs that could lead to the retention of our young people right here in our rural Nebraska communities to work and live in Central Nebraska.
